Joe Donnelly announces campaign for re-election to the U.S. Senate at rally in Anderson
ANDERSON, Ind. – Citing the need for more “Hoosier common sense” in the Senate, Joe Donnelly today announced that he’s running for re-election to the United States Senate at a rally in Anderson. The rally started day two of Joe’s six-day “Hoosier Highways” RV tour kicking off his campaign that takes him across the state to discuss his success reaching across the aisle to deliver results for Indiana in the Senate.
In his speech at the UAW Local 1963, Joe discussed the importance of listening to Hoosiers and bringing their ideas to Washington, instead of letting Washington set the agenda for Indiana. In each of the last three years, Joe has made it to all 92 counties in the state to talk with constituents. What he’s heard is that many Hoosiers feel Washington is too hamstrung by partisanship and gridlock to pay attention to them.
Joe’s approach of hard work and common sense, however, has yielded results and increased Indiana families’ shot at the American dream. He’s running for re-election in order to make sure that outlook continues to have a champion in congress.
Joe also discussed the record that his work has produced in the Senate. 25 bills and amendments Joe has introduced in the Senate have become law, including the Jacob Sexton Military Suicide Prevention Act. His continued efforts to reach across the aisle have led to him being named the Lugar Center’s second most-bipartisan senator. Throughout his time in Washington, Joe has fought to cut red tape, fight for good-paying jobs at home, address the opioids crisis and increase tools for veterans’ mental health. He’s protected social security and medicare, as well as affordable access to health care.
Joe’s announcement rally kicks off the second day of his “Hoosier Highways” RV tour, a six-day tour reinforcing the themes of his candidacy. After starting in Indianapolis on Sunday, the tour will come to at least 21 counties and have over 30 stops in every corner of the state. The tour features rallies, meet-and-greets, business tours, and roundtables so that Joe can discuss his accomplishments in the Senate thus far and hear directly from Hoosiers how he can best continue to work for them in Washington.
“Since 2013, Joe has brought a dose of Hoosier common sense to the Senate, reaching across the aisle to deliver results for Indiana on the issues that matter. He’s running for re-election because Hoosiers deserve a champion in the Senate who works as hard as they do,” said Peter Hanscom, Campaign Manager for Donnelly for Indiana. “Over the next week, he’s excited to travel to every corner of our state to listen to voters’ concerns, because he knows great ideas don’t come from Washington – they come from Indiana.”
